See what it's like for yourself to experience Ecuador's city of Otavalo and the nearby indigenous community of Gualapuro!
Travel to Gualapuro: Text
Quito is the country's capital about two hours south of Gualapuro. Traveling up through the mountains was amazing, with the small lampposts guiding the way twinkling from far away.
Otavalo is located in the Andean mountains and attracts many people to its outdoor market, which is the largest in the country. There are various hostiles, restaurants, and ways to immerse yourself in the country's culture.
The indigenous community of Gualapuro is only a 15 minute drive from Otavalo. It is amazing to think that Otavalo has access to clean water yet just a bit aways, their neighboring communities are facing dire conditions without similar access to a much-needed resource.
Once in the community of Gualapuro, you woundn't want to pass up the opportunity to see the water system that they are building. The main water reservoir is a bit higher in elevation and the rest of the water pumps are located beneath the community alongside a clear river.
